Short answer. A Pemko sliding-door privacy seal set is designed to reduce visible gaps, light and drafts around certain sidewall-mounted sliding openings. That does not establish exterior wind-driven rain performance, a threshold drainage solution or an OEM substitute for a hinged door's perimeter gasket.

First identify the motion and opening layout

Stand clear of the travel path and determine whether the panel slides along the wall, moves into a pocket, or swings on hinges. A sidewall-mounted slab typically sits offset from the wall; the gap at a sliding leaf is not a hinged door's face-to-stop compression gap. Photograph the upper track, the wall/door standoff, the approach side, bottom guide and both vertical edges. Do not remove the panel or loosen any hangers to measure a seal.

Pemko's Privacy Seal Sets product page describes several kits, PEMKOSFSET1–5, intended to address light and draft control at common sidewall-mounted sliding openings. It describes gaps of 1/4–1-1/4 inches in those kit configurations; those values are not a blanket limit for all weatherstrip applications. [F11]

Pemko also identifies 29394_PK as a door-mounted vertical gasketing component with a PemkoPrene insert. Its published ordering note distinguishes the length when used inside a Privacy Seal Set from ordering it alone. [F12] This is why simply cutting a strip to measured door height without confirming the kit configuration can create a mismatch even before discussing performance.

What a privacy kit might answer — and what it does not

A common interior complaint is a line of sight into a room, or light escaping around an office sliding door. A named privacy kit gives the installer a way to select components for different sides of that sidewall-mounted opening. It is not proof the doorway is watertight, has an exterior air-infiltration rating, provides a tested acoustical STC on the installed wall, or meets the accessibility requirements of a particular building. Keep those separate project requirements in writing.

If the complaint is water at an exterior sliding entrance, inspect the manufacturer's complete entrance-system drawings, drainage and flashing specifications through a qualified contractor instead of adding privacy strips over weep paths. Do not obstruct guides, emergency operation, door stops, access controls or required exit clearances. If the door is part of a rated or egress assembly, ask the facility professional before even considering a retrofit.

Information to send the manufacturer

Record the manufacturer/track model if visible, whether there is a frame at the opening, slab width/height, wall offset at three positions, gap under the panel without reaching under a moving slab, and a photo showing the entire track/pocket. Ask which PEMKOSFSET configuration is supported, whether an individual 29394_PK component is used, how ordering length is calculated for that kit, and which documented application boundaries apply. Ask separately about any required exterior infiltration rating or tested acoustic performance.

The existing WeatherstripProfileGuide pages explain generic sliding seals and gap measurement. This proposed page focuses on the difference between Pemko's named privacy-kit use case and a certified external door weatherization system. Where model, track and kit remain unknown, the correct result is no verified kit fit yet, not “any sliding privacy seal will work.”
