Compare each product by component rather than by the broad words “rubber” or “vinyl.” Industrilas profile 4-090 distinguishes its carrier from its sealing lip; note the stated material for each and the carrier/retention geometry on that manufacturer drawing.
Read a composite profile from the part inward
For each candidate, record the manufacturer and exact product/profile code, the carrier’s gripping or clamping range, the bulb or lip material and section dimensions. Two seals described as EPDM may still have different retention methods and shapes.
In the same Trim-Lok builder, the stated 85 Shore A hardness applies to the PVC outer coating and gripping tongues. Do not transfer that number to the EPDM sponge bulb or interpret it as a compression-force figure.
Comparison worksheet before buying
| Datasheet field | Sheet A | Sheet B | Decision rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exact product number and publication version | Record verbatim | Record verbatim | Do not merge versions |
| Carrier, clip and bulb materials | Note each component | Note each component | Compare corresponding components |
| Nominal clamping/retention range | Copy stated unit and part row | Copy equivalent field | No comparison if missing |
| Hardness | Record material, Shore scale and test condition | Record same | Hardness alone does not prove bulb fit |
| Compression or recovery | Record method, load/time/temperature | Record comparable method | If conditions differ, leave outcome unknown |
| Actual door/window system | Record issuer matching evidence | Record issuer matching evidence | Do not infer compatibility from polymer name |
Trim-Lok’s custom trim-seal builder describes a PVC outer coating and gripping tongues, with a separate EPDM sponge bulb. A listed material grade for the carrier cannot be applied to the bulb; compare the actual bulb dimensions and measured compression conditions separately.
Last check: installed operation
DOE's June 2024 exterior-door weatherstrip checklist requires that a fitted strip not impede door operation. That is an independent installation check and cannot be replaced by a reassuring material datasheet.
Keep both original source URLs, the matching product codes and photos of the existing retention method. If a drawing, clamping range or verified model match is missing, the sensible decision is candidate only; do not order on material identity alone. No lab-value ranking, universal lifetime or savings claim is made here.

Use the source drawing to check which property was tested and on which component. Trim-Lok’s stated PVC 85 Shore A is the coating/gripping-tongue value—not EPDM bulb hardness, installed closing force or a prediction of service life. If the installed receiver or product identity is unknown, leave fit undecided.
